For over 40 years, a community of skilled women artisans in Dickwella, Matara has been keeping the traditional craft of Sri Lankan beeralu lace and shadow work alive. Passed down through generations, this delicate art requires patience, precision, and years of dedication to master.
Many of the women behind Priyani Lace come from disadvantaged backgrounds - widows, cancer survivors, victims of abuse - but through their craft, they have found a source of independence and financial stability. What started as a way to preserve a traditional skill has grown into a community where women support one another, share their talents, and create something meaningful together.
